In my many years as a practitioner of yoga, I have experienced several openings in my body. I have gained strength, flexibility and vitality. I have also felt my body close. I have experienced injury, tenderness, vulnerability and fear.
What has helped me the most on both occasions has been:
1. Taking the time needed to listen to my body and respond appropriately
and
2. Teachers who have held space for my journey; whether it be exploring new potentials of an opening, or navigating the challenges of an unexpected closing.
Sometimes an outside eye can see something we were missing, whether it be latent potential or patterns of movement that might be aggravating a condition. Sometimes the advice of someone who has been doing this for a long time is a much needed dose of encouragement.
This is why I love to work 1:1. In group classes it is not possible to always be there at the right moment. With a private class we have the opportunity to go deeper and explore together whatever it is you are experiencing. Whether it be riding the wave of a beautiful new opening or navigating the waters of a challenge.
